After Her Family Abandoned Her, The Dog Waited On Train Tracks For Weeks

When her owners abandoned her on a Southern California railroad, Ribbles had two options: to stay on the fast rails where she last saw her family or to stray and find them. The courageous pup was left to fend for herself entirely, but she hoped her family would find her.

She, therefore, sat and waited.

Fortunately, a kind stranger saw the terrified dog fleeing a speeding train and decided she had to intervene.

“She tried to catch her, but the dog was way too skittish,” Suzette Hall, founder of Logan’s Legacy rescue said. “That’s when she called me for help.”

When Hall arrived on the scene, the dog was just where the kind neighbor had seen her, and it was not secure.

“The train must’ve come five times while I was there,” according to Hall. “Every time it came, she would run into that little hole.”

After some time, Hall discovered that the hole went to a nearby auto dealership. Employees at the dealership told her that they provided food for Ribbles and let her spend the night there.

To Hall’s amazement, the dealership permitted her to set up a trap on their premises. She set up her trap without missing a beat, then turned to face the dog to reassure her.

“I put her food down and started talking to her,” Hall said. “I said to her, ‘This is where your food is tonight.’”

Ribbles, though, balked at entering the trap with Hall around. So the savior went away and came back the next morning to discover something that resembled Ribbles on the tracks.

Hall remarked, “I thought it was her again. But it was a pack of coyotes scavenging for food.”

Hall moved in the direction of the trap out of fear for the puppy. She was able to retrieve Ribbles and take her to the doctor because she was secure inside, go to Hall’s relief.

“I’m working on finding her a foster family because she needs a home to decompress,” Hall said. “That’s the most important thing right now.”

Hall is still searching for Ribbles’ ideal foster home, but she cannot help but be struck by how courageous the tiny dog genuinely is.

“From the trains to the coyotes, she somehow knew what to do to stay safe. She’s a total survivor,” Hall said.
