Fisherman Finds Turtle Floating On The Water With Barnacles Covering All His Body

He had barnacles all on him, but thepetneeds reports that they were removed one by one.

This week, fishermen along Tasmania’s shore discovered a huge loggerhead sea turtle, which they rarely see, and knew he was in need of assistance.

Although he weighed roughly 220 pounds, he was a huge man who lacked energy. He was so coated in barnacles that he couldn’t even immerse himself in the water, which indicates he had been ill for some time.

The Marine Conservation Program (MCP), a government organization that came to the turtle’s rescue after the fishermen seized him and transported him to get help, reported that marine turtles are rarely seen in Tasmanian seas and that this one was definitely in poor health.

According to MCP, the turtle spent the night in a fish market’s temporary housing before being taken for a checkup the next day.

He had X-rays taken by veterinarians to check for plastic or fishing gear in his system. MCP claims that loggerhead turtles frequently mistake plastic bags for jellyfish and ingest them.
