School Therapy Dog Makes History With Her Own Yearbook Photo

Students and staff at Goshen Middle School eagerly put on their nicest outfits and practiced their grins for picture day. Meg, the facility dog, was about to become the first dog to get a picture in the school’s yearbook, and she was feeling very excited about her image.

The moment she struck a pose, the photo was taken. It was evident that Meg had nailed it when the yearbook finally arrived.

Meg is carefully trained as a facility dog to aid individuals in schools, nursing homes, courthouses, and other settings by offering them physical, social, and emotional support. Meg was the first facilities dog at Goshen Middle School after completing her training at Circle Tail almost two years ago.

Meg lives with Kelly DeNu, a seventh-grade math teacher in Goshen, who observes Meg’s effects on the pupils firsthand when she isn’t at work.

DeNu told The Dodo that Meg has the ability to make anyone in the hallway smile when they see her and can quickly reset a kid or staff member if that is what they need at the time. Children nowadays require a little additional attention and help, and Meg is the resource we have been looking for! ”

Meg’s employment occasionally requires her to calm down in a tense environment; her upbeat, reassuring attitude has made her successful in the position.

DeNu said that she was “actually smiling all the time, incredibly cheerful, super curious, and highly talented and taught.” “I love her personality! ”

Meg enjoys going for walks, practicing tricks, cuddling with her cat siblings, and going on runs around the neighborhood with her mother when she isn’t busy with school.

DeNu is continuously in amazement at Meg’s capacity to create a calmer, happier, and more productive environment at the school.

“I never imagined that having Meg would have such a wonderful effect on every kid and every other staff member in addition to me!” DeNu remarked.

And it doesn’t feel like work at all to Meg because she looks forward to seeing her favorite pupils and instructors every day.
